Bosnia and Herzegovina is a mountainous country that hosted the Winter Olympic Games in 1984 and as such the locals have had a strong tradition of mountain skiing and other winter activities!

Olympic Centre Jahorina 🎿
Jahorina, one of the best family skiing centre in Eastern Europe, is known for having the most modern ski centres. With its 52 kilometres of alpine skiing slopes, Jahorina has the potential to host the perfect family holiday. Another great thing about Jahorina is that you can celebrate your moments in unique ways. Be it a VIP gondola ride or snow groomer taxi services and sunrise rides.
Hot Tip: Make sure not to miss one of the top 10 longest alpine coaster trails in Europe! Jahorina’s alpine coaster is 2.5 kilometres long and goes 40 km/h!
Bjelašnica Mountain Resort & Igman🏂
This Olympic Mountain is placed only a half and hour ride from the capital city, Sarajevo. Skiing from its highest peak at 2.067 is a stunning sight for skiers of all ages. Its slopes are known for being a bit steeper than the average beginner slopes, making it a thrill worth experiencing! What is great about Bjelašnica, is hiking trails. The mountain is covered with nature sights to see and explore!
And don’t worry about accommodation! There is a variety of hotels and apartments to choose from. Additionally, you can even visit another Olympic mountain nearby – Igman. Igman was hosting the Olympic jumps for the 1984 Winter Olympic Games. Today, it is known for having beautiful hiking sights.
Hot Tip: Did you know that near the Bjelašnica mountain you can visit the highest village in Bosnia and Herzegovina? The village in question is Lukomir and it is a living ethnological museum. The look of the village is so authentic that it is a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Additionally, you can take another day trip to Umoljani, where the local people are famous for making the most delicious pita.
Vlašić ⛷️
A truly preserved mountain, Vlašić proves to be an exciting retreat in and of itself. Its advantages lie in the relaxed atmosphere and uncrowded nature. On this mountain, you can still try locally made products in the restaurants like jams, Vlašić cheese, vegetables and cured meats. Other than the welcoming accommodation rentals, this mountain is perfect for the first time skiers. It features 5 ski lifts and 7 ski slopes that are suitable for different skiing levels.
Fun fact: The Vlašić Mountain is a 45min drive from Travnik – Bosnia and Herzegovina’s city of Viziers.
Trebević ❄️
Trebević is a uniquely popular mountain in the area of Sarajevo and its surroundings. It sits as a backdrop to Sarajevo, which means it takes just a 5min cable car ride from the Old Town to get to the snow-covered mountain. Trebević isn’t a skiing resort, but it is a truly great uncrowded mountainous retreat. For those who love hiking, Trebević has a multitude of trails of different difficulties. Some go through the depths of forests and lead to stunning views that overlook Bosnia and Herzegovina’s capital city.
And for families, Trebević provides the ultimate mountain entertainment – alpine coasters! Overlooking the skyline of Sarajevo, you can take the coaster down the slopes together with your friends and family!

Ravna Planina Ski Center ☃️
This ski centre is conveniently located just 20km from the capital city, Sarajevo. Using hiking trails, Ravna Planina is connected to the Olympic beauty Jahorina, which opens the possibilities of your mountain vacation even more. With such flexibility of activities, Ravna Planina has developed into a true little city getaway! It offers 12 kilometres of skiing slopes with gondola ready to serve skiers and snowboarders! But it’s strength lies in the multitude of offers: from Nordic skiing to sledding, mountain biking, quad biking etc. Ravna Planina is a getaway for all in the family!
Hot Tip: Don’t forget to spend some time in the Dino Park! This park is a gateway to the history of dinosaurs, but it also features a great adventure park!
Kupres 🛷
This plateau is a real local hit! Known for a rich culture, Kupres has differentiated itself with a myriad of activities that make visiting this area even more fun! You can choose to ski on slopes, or you can choose to have a horse ride through the first winter snow! That way you can take a tour of the nearby nature sights that this region offers!
